Synaptic stimulation clears tauopathy via TFEB
27Jul2022
Stimulation of synaptic activity promotes TFEB-mediated clearance of pathological MAPT/Tau.
Fátima Zallo as co-first and Estibaliz Capetillo-Zarate as co-senior authorships, together with Maialen Martinez-Preciado and Carlos Matute from the Laboratory of Neurobiology of Achucarro and the University of the Basque country UPV/EHU are part of an international group of researchers lead by Davide Tampellini (Inserm, Paris) that have just published a paper in Autophagy Journal, that shows the mechanism behind the benefits of deep brain stimulation (DBS) on removing tauopathy.
This mechanism, underlying the protective effect of DBS, provides encouraging support for the use of synaptic stimulation as a therapeutic treatment against tauopathies.
