Prof. Alexej (Alex) Verkhratsky got his PhD in Physiology in 1986, and in 1993 he got the Doctor of Medical Sciences in Physiology, both at the Bogomoletz Institute of Physiology (National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine).
Prof. Verkhratsky is member of the Academia Europaea and chairman of the Physiology and Medicine section, and member of the Deutsche Akademie der Naturforscher Leopoldina – Nationale Akademie der Wissenschaften.
