ACHUCARRO and the Cajal Institute created an associated unit
The collaboration framework will allow partnerships in neuron-glia research, training and innovation
Achucarro Basque Center for Neuroscience (ACHUCARRO) and the Cajal Institute (CSIC – Spanish Council for Scientific Research) subscribed a collaboration agreement to create an “Associated Unit” to jointly advance in the knowledge about neuron – glia interactions in health and disease.
The Cajal Institute (IC) is a Research Center in Neurobiology that belongs to the Spanish Research Council (CSIC). The IC originates from the Laboratorio de Investigaciones Biológicas, funded in 1900 on the occasion of the Moscow Prize to Santiago Ramón y Cajal (1852-1934). Following the award of the Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine (1906) and the creation of the Junta de Ampliación de Estudios (1907), Cajal was appointed as President of the Junta. A royal decree by king Alfonso XIII established the construction of a new building and the appointment of Cajal as the first director in 1920.
