Ander Baraibar won the Francesco della Valle Foundation award
Dr. Baraibar Sierra is the first author of the article published in Brain, Behavior and Immunity, a research that was led by Dr. Susana Mato (UPV/EHU, Biobizkaia, ACHUCARRO) and Dr. Giovanni Marsicano (Bordeaux, France).
Our colleague, postdoctoral researcher Dr. Andrés Mateo (Ander) Baraibar Sierra is the winner of the contest for Best Original Research Article on “Excellence in Neuroinflammation Award 2025“, awarded by the Francesco della Valle Foundation.
The article, published in October 2024 involves a wide collaboration of personnel from ACHUCARRO and other relevant instutions in our environment.

Astrocytes play a pivotal role in multiple sclerosis initiation and progression but astrocyte-neuronal network alterations contributing to gray matter pathology remain undefined. The research team unveiled the deregulation of astrocytic calcium signaling and astrocyte-to-neuron communication as key pathophysiological mechanisms of cortical dysfunction in the experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE) model of multiple sclerosis.
