About me

I graduated in Biochemistry at the University of the Basque Country in Leioa (Spain) in 2008. Following a 1-year training period at the Laboratory of Molecular Genetics (Cruces University Hospital), I started my Thesis project at the Laboratory of Neurobiology under the supervision of Dr. Susana Mato and Prof. Carlos Matute. I obtained my Ph.D. in Neuroscience at University of the Basque Country in 2014 and in 2015 I started a postdoctoral training period at the Momentum Laboratory of Molecular Neurobiology under the supervision of Prof. István Katona (Institute of Experimental Medicine, Hungarian Academy of Sciences in Budapest – KOKI/MTA), as a recipient of a postdoctoral grant from the MTA.

In 2016, I was granted a postdoctoral fellowship from the Basque Government, which supported me until January 2020. During my scientific career, I have collaborated in 6 research projects obtained in national and international competitive calls. I am co-author of 9 publications and 21 communications to national and international meetings. My work on the role of MAGL as therapeutic target in multiple sclerosis (Bernal-Chico et al., Glia 2015) has been awarded by the Spanish Society on Cannabinoid Research (SEIC 2014) and the Spanish Glia Network (RGE, III Laia Acarín Award).

I am a regular member of the SEIC, the Federation of European Neuroscience Societies (FENS), the Spanish Neuroscience Society (SENC) and I belong to the Network Center for Biomedical Research in Neurodegenerative Diseases (CIBERNED), as well as to Biocruces Bizkaia HRI.
