Postdoctoral position (R2,R3) in design and generation of peptides with therapeutic potential in Alzheimer's disease (IKUR)

The Laboratory of Small GTPases and Neurosignaling at ACHUCARRO is recruiting one postdoctoral researcher (R2 or R3) in protein engineering to design and generate recombinants peptides with potential therapeutic capabilities in Alzheimer’s diseases. This project is in collaboration with Dr. Shira Knafo, at BIOFISIKA Institute.

Summary Information

Profile for this position
The emerging field of epitranscriptomics revealed an equally important role of RNA modifications in synaptic plasticity at the post-transcriptional level. We are interested in investigating the mechanism molecular mechanism by which the m6A (N6-methyl-adenosine) RNA pathway dynamically fine-tunes gene expression to modulate the toxic effect of Ab peptide on neurons and cognition. We will focus on one of the proteins of this RNA pathway: demethylase FTO, we aim to define the molecular mechanisms controlling FTO activity in the context of AD. We will determine the FTO PTMs under Ab overload conditions. This information will guide us to decipher the upstream signaling regulating FTO activity and design new recombinant peptides that prevent specific FTO activities. This project will be supervised by Dr Zugaza. The candidate must show experience in protein biochemistry and intracellular signaling and trafficking in eukaryotic cells.
Contract
This contract will be funded by IKUR Strategy of the Basque Government and has a duration of 2 years. The gross annual salary will be 33.400 euros. Candidates that have not worked /lived in our territory for more than 5 years can opt to a special tax regime than can increase the net salary: https://www.investinbiscay.com/en/bizkaia-tax-breaks
Elegibility
We are seeking a postdoctoral researcher with expertise in protein Biochemistry, signal transduction, intracellular trafficking and knowledgeable in either membrane dinamics and in Advanced Light Microscopy as well as Electron Microscopy and Tomography will be an asset.
