Postdoctoral position (R2, R3) in Astrocyte Pathophysiology
The Laboratory of Cellular Basis of Behavior and Disease at Achucarro and the University of the Basque Country (EHU) offers a postdoctoral position for highly motivated researchers willing to investigate astrocyte pathophysiology in the context of neuroinflammatory and neurodegenerative disorders.

The selected candidate will carry out their project at the team Endocannabinoids and neuroglial cells under the supervision of Dr. Susana Mato. The research will combine in vivo and ex vivo imaging of astrocyte calcium activity/metabolism in the somatosensory cortex and/or the habenular complex as target brain areas, behavioral analysis, gene delivery approaches and the recording and manipulation of brain activity using chemogenetics/optogenetics. The overall aim is to improve current understanding of the astrocyte-based mechanisms underlying pain and emotional disturbances in multiple sclerosis.
Contract
The position is initially funded for 1 year by project PID 2024-161059OB-I00, with the possibility of extension subject to the availability of additional funding. The candidate is expected to apply for postdoctoral fellowships from the Basque Government, EHU, the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities (Juan de la Cierva, Ramón y Cajal), or private foundations.
Elegibility
- Research background in astrocyte imaging using genetically encoded indicators in vivo and/or ex vivo.
- Eligibility to apply for competitive postdoctoral fellowships will be considered an asset.
