About me

Medical doctor by the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Santiago de Compostela, I entered the Department of Physiology as an internal student by competitive examination, beginning my interest in electrophysiology. After graduating, I did my Doctoral Thesis at the Department of Neurosciences of the UPV/EHU on neuroanatomy of the visual system. During my undergraduate period and later at the UPV/EHU, I made several stays in research centers (Max Planck Institutes in Frankfurt and Göttingen and the Center (now Institute) of Neurobiology of the UNAM-Mexico) to delve into unit recording electrophysiological techniques, multi-unit and chemical or electrical stimulation.

My work consists, especially, in the creation, maintenance and use of the infrastructures for electrophysiological studies of the research group, records that cover a wide spectrum of techniques: unitary channel recording, current/voltage fixation in cells in culture, organotypic or in live tissue slices (Brain slices), compound action potentials in isolated optic nerves, visual evoked potentials, motor potentials and heterologous protein expression in Xenopus laevis oocytes. I have also designed a special experimental ischemia laboratory
