New strategy 2018-2021

01 Mar 2018

During the year 2017, Achucarro Basque Center for Neuroscience (ACHUCARRO) underwent a process of assessment and review of the achievement during the period 2014-2017, with the objective of reflecting on the challenges for the future and the next strategic period, 2018-2021.

ACHUCARRO is one of the Basque Excellence Research Centres (BERC) fostered by the Basque Government

During the year 2017, Achucarro Basque Center for Neuroscience (ACHUCARRO) underwent a process of assessment and review of the achievement during the period 2014-2017, with the objective of reflecting on the challenges for the future and the next strategic period, 2018-2021.

Strategic assessment and analysis with ISAC panel (June 2017)

The Basque RIS3 strategy that transposes European Commission’s strategic guidelines has been our framework space, together with the World’s trends and changes expected for the near future.

ACHUCARRO was created in 2012, and effectively started operating in 2013, so the 2018-2021 is the period to consolidate the excellent launch of our centre, with the challenge of becoming a world-wide reference in the study of glial cells biology, a research field with very ample possibilities for the advance of human knowledge about the brain, and therefore, with the effect of age and the diseases of the nervous system that constitute a huge societal challenge.

Inauguration event of the new headquarters (June 2017)

This in-depth review of our path during the 2013-2017 period drove us to make some changes in the elements that reflect the strategy of ACHUCARRO, so we updated our Mission and Vision, according to the new challenges ahead, and prepared an application to the BERC Programme call of the Basque Government, to apply for funding to develop this new strategy.

And we wanted to make aware of these changes to our partnerscollaborators and stakeholders, so one of the objectives of this text you are reading is that.

We want to strengthen the collaboration relationships with our partners and stakeholders, so we will be have to hear about you and your ideas, plans, projects, concerns, complaints,…

In that sense, the motto we defined in 2012 remains perfectly valid: Scientia ad remedium, because only by knowing we will be able to cure brain diseases.
